How to use your Korean Regimen Kit: Combination Skin.
This skincare regimen is appropriate for those who have combination skin and find themselves struggling with managing a variety of skincare issues ranging from acne to dry flakes to shine.
After thorough testing, research and discussing with experts, customers and our team, we thoughtfully hand-picked a complete Korean skincare regimen for those who have dry skin. Each product is gentle enough for those with sensitive skin, and when used altogether, these products work well together and can help bring that inner glow out, finally.
Morning Routine
Your alarm goes off, it’s early, and it’s time to start the day. There’s no better way to wake up your skin than a complete skincare routine. Think of it as your complete breakfast; your skin won’t function well without it. It provides your skin with nutrients and nourishment to be healthy, happy, and under control.
Step 1: Oil Cleanser
We recommend using a double cleansing method in the evenings to break down makeup, SPF, and any other pollutants from the day. Double cleansing includes the use of an oil-based cleanser and a foaming cleanser. You don't have to worry about an oil-based cleanser clogging your pores or causing breakouts because 1) the cleanser works on the surface of the skin and isn't present enough to clog or seep into the skin 2) the oil that is in these cleansers are safe to use on any skin type. These oils are not going to leave you feeling congested, oily, or like you're going to break out.
The oil cleanser is used with dry hands onto dry face, directly over makeup. It's massaged into the skin, even over eye makeup, then rinsed clean. Be sure that you're rinsing all of the oil off of your skin, then follow with the foaming cleanser, and in the morning you can use a little less oil than you would at night.
For this kit you’ll use the Shangpree S-Energy Cleansing Gel .This oil-based cleanser is actually a gel that melts onto the skin to gently yet effectively cleanse the skin of makeup, oil-based impurities and dirt while hydrating the skin. Anti-bacterial lavender balances sebum and soothes skin while oxygen stimulates collagen and is a natural anti-inflammatory. This is a great first-cleanser choice for all skin types, but especially both sensitive and breakout-prone skin, because even though it is oil-based, it is non-comedogenic.
Step 2: Foaming Cleanser
Using a foaming cleanser in the morning is essential for a few reasons. It cleanses your skin of any impurities from overnight. As you sleep, your skin produces oils. You’ll want to balance your skin before starting your routine. In addition to this, a clean canvas is a better way to start your regimen as it allows your products to be absorbed with less of a barrier of entry. If your toner was applied onto skin that has not been cleansed, you won’t see the best results.
For this kit, you’ll use the SRB Enzyme Powder Wash. This unique cleanser utilizes rice bran extract to gently cleanse and exfoliate skin for a brighter, softer complexion. Rice bran extract has anti-inflammatory properties which assist in healing chapped and damaged skin. The dry cleanser maintains a low pH of 5.5 due thanks to natural amino acid surfactants, so that it doesn't strip skin or damage the moisture barrier.
To use, wet skin with lukewarm water, add a small amount of water to your hands (like 2 tablespoons) and dispense about 1 gram of the powder into your palm. Work the powder into a foam by rubbing your hands together. Massage onto wet skin using small circular motions. Rinse the face clean, be sure to remove any residue of the cleaner, and pat the skin dry with a clean towel (unless you’re following up with an exfoliator). As an added bonus, the SRB Enzyme Powder Wash can double as an exfoliator!
Step 3: Exfoliator (1-3 times per week)
If radiant, glowing, smooth skin that accepts products more easily is appealing to you, you’ll want to exfoliate regularly. Exfoliation helps to remove surface dead skin cells and encourage cell turnover. It can benefit all skin types and concerns as it helps to even out skin tone, address hyperpigmentation, smooth our skin texture, and remove dead skin to prevent dirt and oils from getting clogged within the pores. Morning is an excellent time to do this. If you exfoliate in the evening, your skin will renew and rejuvenate overnight, causing some of your efforts to be lost.
To use: After cleansing, on wet skin, apply a dime sized amount of product to your hands. Gently massage over the face, paying close attention to sensitive areas as well as areas that are often overlooked (jawline, around the nose, etc.). Don’t scrub aggressively as this can cause irritation very quickly and hurt your skin more than it helps. Rinse the product clean and pat the skin dry. We recommend using this scrub 1-3 times per week in the mornings.
For this kit you’ll use the Mizon Apple Smoothie Peeling Gel. This ultra-gentle exfoliating gel rids the skin of dead skin cells and dirt without harsh chemicals or skin-irritating microbeads. A cocktail of fruit and botanical extracts helps renew skin. Natural papaya extract contains papain which "digests" dead skin tissue while leaving new, healthy tissue intact for easy and effective exfoliation, citrus extracts work to brighten skin. Apple extract contains natural AHAs which gently exfoliate skin, but apple extract also works as an astringent so it also tightens pores and helps clear up acne-causing agents. Dirt and dead skin gently dissolve away, leaving you with uber-soft skin.
Step 4: Toner
Time to tone. The second step in your routine should be a toner. A toner's main function is to balance the skin's pH and gently remove excess dead skin cells. This is important because when the skin's pH is balanced and dead skin is removed, a better surface for serums and lotions is achieved. If you skip this step, your routine becomes less effective and results are muted.
To use, apply a dime sized amount of toner to a cotton pad. Sweep over the face. Allow it to absorb before moving on to the next step.
For this kit you’ll use the Be the Skin Botanical Nutrition Toner An all-natural toner that balances the skin's pH level thanks to botanicals and timeless herbs. Helps prep skin for following serums and lotions.
Step 5: Essence
Essentially it’s the essence step. Let us explain. The next step in your routine may be new to you. An essence is a crucial part of a Korean skincare routine. An essence is a watery serum that allows your skin to accept products more effectively. It delicately hydrates the skin and absorbs fairly quickly.
To use, you can either apply to a cotton pad, then pat into the skin, or you can apply to your hands, then pat into the skin. As long as you pat the product onto your face, you’re ensuring that it is being absorbed and applied correctly.
For this kit you’ll use the Olivarrier Dual Moist Hyaluron Essence. A viscous serum-like product, this concentrated essence is packed to the brim with squalane, panthenol, hyaluronic acid, oatmeal, broccoli and ceramides which work together to soothe and hydrate skin. It contains micro hyaluronic acid which sinks deep into skin to hydrate from within. Squalane goes even deeper to not only add nourishment to skin but also helps provide protection and strength. The inclusion of madecassoide and ceramides help restore skin's barrier so skin can heal quicker. The results? Skin is left deeply hydrated and nourished, and is given what it needs to help rebuild fast.
Step 6: Sheet Mask (1-3 times per week)
Sheet masks helps to provide deep relief for skin concerns using targeted ingredients to produce specific results. Looking to brighten, address fine lines and wrinkles, address breakouts, or hydration concerns? Apply a sheet mask that caters to your need. These allow you to optimize your skincare routine to your skin that day. These can be applied morning or evening.
To use, open the package and remove the mask. Unfold and align the mask onto your face. There’s time limits on the packaging (typically 10-30 minutes), be sure to remove when the time is up. Discard the mask and pat the remaining essence into the skin. Don’t wash off your skin. At this point, you can continue with your regimen and apply your serums, or you can head skip the serums and go to the eye cream step. It all depends on your time needs and how your skin is feeling that day.
In this kit you’ll use the Peach & Lily Good Skin Day Mask. This mask delivers hydration deep within the skin, vital minerals and vitamins, a blast of antioxidants, and brightening ingredients for a radiant glow and the ultimate good skin day. You’ll notice that your skin will cool down when you apply this mask on your face — this helps combat inflammation, a key factor in keeping you from having a good skin day (and what contributes to premature aging). We kept these premium sheet masks free of synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, alcohol, parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, and formaldehyde. We then packed them full of potent ingredients that deliver visible results – instantly and over time.
Step 7: Serums
Now it’s personal. During the serum step of your routine, you can layer one or more serums to achieve your skincare goals. Serums are targeted treatments that contain super small molecules targeted at specific skin concerns. This is a step where you can customize your routine to your time needs as well as your skin's needs. If you're limited in amount of time that you have, you can apply one serum in the day time and one in the evening. If you have a busier morning, apply one in the morning and both at night.
It's truly a personalized step that will allow you to achieve your skincare goals and not take up too much time. The other benefit to these products is that they are so light in texture that they absorb very quickly to the skin.
To use the first serum (Mizon Peptide 500), apply 1-2 drops to your hands and massage over the face. Allow 15-30 seconds for the product to soak in and follow with one pump of the second serum (Be the Skin Purifying White Waterful Serum)
The two serums in this kit are:
Mizon Peptide 500 — The peptide in this lightweight, silky serum addresses wrinkles and fine lines. This tried-and-true ingredient is known to help hydrate, firm, and lift.
The Be the Skin Purifying White Waterful Serum — This serum helps clarify and brighten the skin with botanicals such as mushrooms, green tea extract and arbutin.
Step 8: Eye Cream
Often overlooked, yet incredibly essential, the eye cream step is quick and easy. It's important not to skip this step because the eye area is so delicate and prone to damage that special care is essential. The skin under and surround the eyes is very thin (the eye lids have the thinnest skin on the body). This means that it's more prone to dehydration, fine lines, and irritation. An eye cream is formulated to deliver the adequate nutrients to prevent the look of aging, dark circles, or dehydration.
To use, apply a very small amount to the ring fingers. Use a patting motion as you apply to the orbital bone, temple area, and the eye lids. Don't massage this skin or rub the area to apply. This will cause fine lines and could irritate the area. Avoid applying it too close to the eye itself as this can be painful if it makes it's way into the eye. This should be applied morning and night, but if you're pressed for time, once a day is acceptable.
For this kit, you’ll use the Saturday Skin Wide Awake Brightening Eye Cream. This eye creams gives you that energized, wide-awake look and totally refreshes the eyes. Formulated with date seed and palm tree extracts which illuminate and refresh the area around the eyes. This firming, lifting, and brightening eye cream helps give your eyes a youthful, healthy appearance.
Step 9: Moisturizer
Onto the finish line! The last step in your routine should be a moisturizer. A moisturizer not only hydrates the skin, it also seals in moisture. Moisturizers don't have to be heavy creams that leave you feeling congested or over hydrated. Instead, there are some incredible formulations that provide healthy hydration without leaving you feeling oily. You'll want to follow this step with an SPF during the day time as well.
To use take a pea sized amount onto your fingertips. Massage it into your face. Once it’s absorbed, follow with an SPF.
In this kit you’ll use the Eco Your Skin Moisture Wall Surge . This is a gel type cream that is light but full of naturally soothing ingredients such as betaine, ceramide, aloe vera, avocado and allantoin. For skin that easily becomes dry and is sensitive, this product creates an oil-water protective shield to keep moisture longer (up to 72hr) allowing skin to restore a naturally radiant tone.
Step 10: Sunscreen
We mentioned that we recommend ending your morning routine with an SPF. Though it’s not included in kit, if you’re looking for a great sunscreen that works with all skin types, we recommend the Lagom Sun Gel. This facial sunscreen is so lightweight you won't even remember you're wearing it. Formulated with SPF 50 UVB protection plus PA+++, it has the max UVA protection so that it provides a full and comprehensive sun shield for your skin all day long! With seamless absorbability and a matte finish, it's the perfect daily accompaniment to your youthful complexion, keeping it bright, beautiful, and rejuvenated for years to come.
Evening Routine
The day is done, it’s time to get some beauty sleep. Before you head to bed, it’s essential to do your nightly regimen. Your nightly regimen allows your skin to renew as you sleep, absorb all of the amazing products and deeply treat your skin. This routine is almost identical to your morning routine (minus the sunscreen).
