We are officially kicking off Snail Week!
No, we’re not just an office full of snail-obsessed beauty hoarders (but, we are). We’re launching five new snail products this week because we heard you! It’s no secret that everyone has fallen head over shell (wink wink) for our All-In-One Snail Repair Cream, so we decided to bring in more slimy wonders!
First product up to bat is… Snail Repair Blemish Balm.
Like all of Mizon’s other snail products, this BB cream boasts a high concentrate of 45% snail extract. We love this formula not only for its creamy consistency and blend-ability, but also for it’s multi-functional formula.
It tackles wrinkles with Adenosine, a compound traditionally used to regulate heart rhythm, but research has found that adenosine helps to increase skin smoothness and reduced deep wrinkles. Marie-Laurence Abella at L’Oréal Research in France, who conducted studies on adenosine, says the compound causes skin cells to relax, ergo relaxing wrinkles caused by contracted skin cells.
Beyond adenosine, this snail BB cream also contains peptides, which help reduce the look of collagen loss and stimulates skin cells to produce more collagen. And we all know, collagen is the building block for youthful skin.
While these anti-aging properties are amazing, we still love snail extract for it’s ability to encourage blemishes to disappear and fade existing acne scars or dark spots. Armed with our snail cream and blemish balm, we can face pesky acne head on.
Let’s not forget that this cream has makeup benefits, too! The shade is light and comparable to MAC’s NC15. As with many Korean BB creams, a little goes a long way. We recommend a pea sized amount to start off with to achieve a light-medium coverage, and luckily, the coverage is definitely build able thanks to the easy-to-blend formula. Apply the BB cream in a stipling/tapping motion with either your fingers, brush or sponge. It sets to a natural, slightly matte, finish, unlike a dewy cushion compact.
We saw an instant lift to dull/tired skin, and the coverage was perfect for evening out redness and blurring large pores. The snail extract also helps to curb excess sebum production, which actually helps prolong the wear! Also, did we mention SPF 32/PA++? Needless to say, summer is better with our Snail Repair Blemish Balm.
Brighter, more even skin is finally ours, and it’s all thanks to a small but mighty hero: snails.
Our “Snail Fact” of the day addresses a commonly asked question: where?
The snail slime collected from lab-bred snails (no snails harmed in the process) is processed into a powdery substance that is then added to skin care products. The ancient Greeks used snails to treat inflammation, and Chilean farmers who handled snails noticed their hands were visibly smoother. What was going on?
Snails secret a thick fluid to protect themselves. Surprisingly, it contained a lot of common beauty ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, antimicrobial and copper peptides, etc. The slime not only helps the snail retain moisture, but it also helps heal any cuts or abrasions it gets from crawling around on who knows what and where - no bandaids needed here! It’s no wonder that snails made the leap (crawl?) into skincare.
Stay tuned to our “All Hail The Snail” campaign this week for more snail product unveilings. Snails might go at a slow pace, but these products are definitely flying off the shelves.
