We’ve tried all the funky ingredients – snail mucin, starfish extract, dragon’s blood, you name it. Sometimes, the most effective ingredients are right in your fridge. No, we’re not talking about the sheet masks that are in there. We’re talking about eggs!
We were reminded of how great whipped up egg whites are for tightening pores and soaking up oil the other night when we were baking. Since the recipe called for only yolks, we were left with a bowl of lonely egg whites until that little light bulb starting blinking above our heads.
That’s when we abandoned our veggie prep for an egg white omelet and started going to our box of products currently not in rotation. After some digging, we unearthed our Mizon Egg White Bubble Cleanser to squeals of delight. We had been saving it for a rainy (and oily) day, but seeing foaming egg whites reminded us of something important.
Egg whites are fantastic for tightening and toning the skin to help shrink pores and soften skin’s texture. Eggs whites are packed with collagen and protein (a.k.a. albumin), so your skin looks refined and smooth after the protein works to tighten the skin while the collagen helps to fill in fine lines.
Our bubbling cleanser goes one step beyond – it also gently exfoliates with a powerful combination of papaya, bilberry root/leaf, sugar cane, orange, lemon and gysophila extracts. Basically, all these fruit and botanical extracts work to break down dead skin cells that are still clinging to the surface of your skin, which is what makes your complexion look dull.
Not to leave you stranded, the formulation also has a healthy dose of hyaluronic acid and trehalose to help your skin retain moisture, so the cleanser leaves your face soft instead of tight and dry.
The hero ingredient is obviously the egg white extract (all 3,200mg), which is where the collagen and protein start to kick in. The foaming cleanser reaches deep into pores to cleanse any impurities and then tighten the pores to “close” them up. Egg whites also help the skin to look rejuvenated, and come on, we all need a little bit of that.
The fluffy foam makes cleansing gentle and irritation-free, so even sensitive skin and acne prone skin will enjoy the benefits of this cleanser. If you’re out of cleanser or simply waiting for yours in the mail (wink wink), we’ve got a super simple DIY egg foam mask for you!
The simplest, simplest ingredient list: egg whites. Whip them up until frothy and foamy, then spread all over our face and let it dry for about 10 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water and gently pat the skin dry to see a glowing complexion!
Realistically, this tightening and lifting effects won’t last forever, but they’re still wonderful for a little in-home DIY treatment. Plus, using an egg white cleanser regularly with your skincare routine will help to maintain a #flawless complexion.
