I’ll always remember the day we were given the opportunity to open our first-ever Peach & Lily store in Macy’s. It was the summer of 2015, and I was walking back to our office from the meeting with Macy’s clutching my bag so tightly in disbelief and excitement that my hands were cramped by the time I got back to my desk.
An offline store meant that on a daily basis, we could finally meet our customers in person and develop face-to-face relationships. We could analyze skin in a way that (though our #AskLily program does a pretty great job!) you can never truly replicate digitally – and customers could touch, smell and try all products before purchasing.
And then we opened our first store, just as planned in Flushing, New York, a neighborhood known for being extremely skin-savvy, in time for Black Friday of 2015!
Then, came the questions. I had no idea how the store would actually do. Would people come? Would people find our beauty advisors helpful? Would people view the store as a place to grab what they already knew they wanted or discover new things?
You never know until you try, and over the last six months, we’ve had the joy of seeing the store grow and customers come back over and over again. We’ve had the opportunity to learn how to run a store and gain so many insights from our in-real-life experience.
And most excitingly, we’ve had so many emails and inquiries with requests for Peach & Lily to open another store...
...SO WE DID! And this time, we’re bringing Peach & Lily to the West Coast! We’re so excited to officially announce that we are NOW OPEN in the Macy’s Westfield Santa Anita in Arcadia, California! (It’s at 400 Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia CA, 91006, for those who want to visit!)
When we were given the opportunity to open in this amazing location, which is also home to the famed Santa Anita race track, peacocks, and a very beauty-savvy demographic, and best of all—right at the entrance to Macy’s from the Westfield Mall (!!), there was no hesitation.
We wanted to the space to feel fun and airy with lots of surface area to play with products—smell them, touch them, all that good stuff! There is, of course, also a consultation booth as soon as you enter the store—because personalized skin care guidance and knowledge is always core to the Peach & Lily mission, online or off. Given the space advantages of a store outside of crowded New York City, we were overjoyed to have the opportunity to create a larger space! The new location has an airy open layout with no walls.
When it comes to the store’s design, we drew inspiration from the beautiful traditional Korean hanbok for color-blocked areas to play with products, in honor of the part of Korean beauty that is time-tested and passed down through the generations.
We also created a bright, lucite sheet mask shelf for easy browsing, and a back wall where we can highlight our ever-changing favorite trends and my personal picks.
We loved how our first store came out so much that we went straight back to the brilliant John Rawlins to make this second store vision turn into a reality!
To celebrate our launch, we fêted with some of our favorite skincare savvy West Coast influencers. After custom skin consultations, we talked everything beauty and Korean skincare over high tea and bubbly at the Langham. Check out their Instagrams and Snapchats for more details!
